As someone who seeks to address issues proactively, I found myself dealing with household matters neglected over time, like fixing a drawer that had not closed properly for nine years. The transition from COVID-19 restrictions to assuming the role of caregiver for my husband Chris significantly impacted my organizational skills at home. Although skilled at managing tasks, caregiving took a significant emotional toll.
In the fall of 2023, following Chris's bone marrow transplant, he began his recovery process, which lasted approximately three months. During this period, my health deteriorated, resulting in a severe bout of bronchitis. Following the winter storms and subsequent healing, I returned to recruiting candidates for local elections by February 2024. As an elected official, I understand the importance of finding dedicated individuals willing to serve in non-partisan roles within the community.
In August, 2024, we had a beautiful trip to NY with Chris, we watched his son get married. (Picture above). The four days we were there was a nice distraction and watching his family and the love they have for each other was refreshing. Arriving home, we realized we both got COVID-19, probably from a packed airplane out of NYC, but then, we both have immune problems. We recovered, but then Chris came down with Shingles...a 3 month struggle for him. In the new Year, we managed to get through another California Winter (lots of rain), but the community efforts I managed kept me distracted from the political quagmire of this country. I stay involved and active in the protests.
In writing this today (6 months after drafting the beginning of this "status of my opinions"), here it is July 1, 2025.
We feel healthy, both of us, and we are standing steady. I continue to be grateful for our sense of being. Chris continues to be in remission and I have a much better mental state on that.
NAMASTE!
